Visit Jindaiji temple in Chofu, Eifukuji temple which is located only 30 seconds from ASIJ, or any other temples on Dec. 31. You will hear the traditional Joya no Kane, the tolling of temple bells, 108 times at midnight on New Year’s Eve. It is believed to erase the 108 human sufferings described in Buddhist teaching. Japanese people eat soba on New Year’s Eve. The long soba noodles symbolize longevity, and are eaten to wish for long life.
