John O’Leary will lead a group up Mt. Fuji this coming Saturday night so that everyone will be on top for the sunrise on Sunday morning about 5am.
Schedule:
ASIJ Parking lot: 6pm meet
Mt. Fuji, 5th station parking lot, 8pm meet
On top around 2-4am.
Required: flashlight, warm clothes for the top (sweats, windbreaker), maybe a light pancho in case of rain, camera, money (water is available all the way up but pricey), snacks, towel/tissue in case it is windy.
Remember, this is a volcanic ash mountain and many hundreds will be climbing at the same time up the same trail, so you have to be patient! It may take about 6 hours to climb to the top.
If you want to go or have questions, email joleary@asij.ac.jp and he will put you on a list. HS, college kids, parents, faculty are all welcome.
They say “everyone should climb Mt. Fuji to see a sunrise from the top once, twice if you are a fool”
